A Valley to discover…
Gressoney is not one of those destinations you find by chance.
The Lys Valley climbs toward Monte Rosa through forests of fir and larch, villages still bearing visible traces of Walser culture — the people of Germanic origin who settled here in the Middle Ages and left behind a way of living in the mountains marked by restraint, silence, and care.
The names of the hamlets, the wood-and-stone buildings, the air that already changes as the road climbs: this is a place that has chosen not to rush.
Under the snow
Snow arrives early and stays long. The Monterosa Ski area is one of the largest in the Western Alps, with slopes running down toward Champoluc and Alagna with Monte Rosa always in view. But Gressoney in winter is also the other kind of snow: the Blue Lake when it freezes over, the silent forests crossed on snowshoes, the Lys flowing beneath a crust of ice.
